To understand what each Political Party stands for, we will look back at the history of their leaders and two Bills: the Federal Children Born Alive Protection Bill 2021 and NSW’s Reproductive Health Care Reform Bill 2019.
Lapsing of the Human Rights (Children Born Alive Protection) Bill 2021
In August 2021, former Federal MP George Christensen introduced the Children Born Alive Protection Bill, which seeks to protects babies born alive after an abortion.

The Bill has sadly lapsed[1] after not receiving enough support.
Scott Morrison: Former Liberal Party leader
Christensen wrote to the Prime Minister Scott Morrison seeking support for his Born Alive bill, and Morrison replied as follows[2]:
“Access to pregnancy termination services in Australia is the responsibility of states and territories and subject to their respective legislation.” – Morrison is happy to abdicate the responsibility of protecting unborn children to State and Territory laws, most of them allow the unborn to be killed right up until birth[3].
Morrison continues: “…This access [to abortion] is an important element of [women’s] reproductive and sexual health services…” – because of course it’s important to have access to kill unborn babies (including killing unborn women) for women’s health, right?
He concludes: “We are committed to protecting and promoting the sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and girls.” – But what about the rights of the unborn women? What about the health of the unborn girls who are slaughtered in abortion?
Let that sink in: A proposed Bill which had the sole purpose of protecting the lives of babies who are already born was not passed during the Morrison government. Their blood is on the hands of Morrison and anyone else who did not support the Bill.
Morrison has now resigned and been replaced by Peter Dutton as the leader of the Liberal Party[4].
Peter Dutton: Current Liberal Party leader
During a TV interview amidst the debate of NSW’s Reproductive Health Care Reform Bill 2019 (allowing abortion on demand until birth), Peter Dutton and Anthony Albanese debated about the bill.
Although Dutton is against late term abortions, stating “I think 22 weeks is too late”[5], he supports abortion prior to 22 weeks, stating “it’s a matter, ultimately, for the mother.”
Dutton did quite well as our former Defence minister to protect the lives of Australians – except for unborn babies less than 22 weeks old; whether unborn babies are protected or killed “is a matter for the mother” according to Dutton.
Dutton also cancelled the visa of American pro-life activist Troy Newman who was invited to speak at a Right to Life Australia events in October 2015, under pressure from his Labor colleague Terri Butler who said Newman would “cause significant harm to our community” for his pro-life views[6].
Anthony Albanese: Labor leader
In response to Dutton, Albanese said “If I had a vote, I’d support the legislation. I think women have the right to choose[7]”. But not the unborn women, according to Albanese, they have no rights to choose whether they live or die.
Labor’s official policy is to decriminalise abortion nationally, in the name of “women’s health”[8].
Barnaby Joyce: Nationals leader*
In contrast, Joyce was the highest-ranking MP (Former Deputy PM) who was vocally against abortion: he called abortion the “slavery date of our time”[9] and “infanticide on demand”[10] during a pro-life rally in NSW in 2019.
Joyce spoke in a rally: “They [NSW politicians] aren’t going to listen to your philosophical argument, but by gosh – they’re going to listen to your political argument … You have to go out and talk to other people … I want you to talk to your families … I want you to talk to your friends. I want you to talk to them about the logic: that if a child, the day before it is born, does not have any rights, when does anybody have any rights?”
Adam Bandt: Greens leader
In response to the draft US Supreme Court leak of overturning Roe vs Wade, Bandt affirms: “Access to a safe abortion should be a basic health service and an inalienable right in this country….The Greens will fight any attacks on reproductive healthcare, and the basic human rights that should be afforded to all Australians.”[11]
Bandt is as pro-abortion as you can get.
Pauline Hanson: One Nation leader*
Although Hanson claims her party to be pro-life[12] and acknowledges the scientific fact that a human being’s life begins in the womb[13], she believes abortion is justified in cases of “health reasons, the mother or the child, or rape but until a certain period of time”[14].
How strange: if there are health problems with the unborn child, then it’s justified to kill them?
What to do now:
- Prayer
Psalm 146:3 says “Put not your trust in princes [politicians], in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation. When his breath departs, he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans [and policies] perish”.
Don’t put your faith in politicians and their policies, who are voted in/out every couple of years.
Put your faith in the Lord Christ and His promises, which stand forever
Constantly pray that the Lord will save the unborn, as He is Sovereign over all things and cares for the unborn children.
- Proclaim the gospel
The best way to persuade someone to be pro-life is by telling them about the good news of the Lord Christ – that God’s Son was killed to take our punishment so that we may have eternal life.
Hearty debates about abortion is necessary, but only the gospel has God’s power to make us a new creation and replace our hearts of stone with a new heart and a new Spirit (Romans 1:16; 1 Corinthians 5:17; Ezekiel 36:26).
- Petition the government
NSW’s state election is on the 25 March 2023.
Start emailing, calling and visiting your local State MP now to speak up for the unborn, who cannot speak for themselves.
Heed the words of Scripture:
“Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter. If you say, “But we knew nothing about this”, does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay everyone according to what they have done?” (Proverbs 24:11-12).
*Joyce and Hanson are yet to be confirmed to continue in party leadership
